We walked a mile and a half to City Hall this morning stopping at a post office to mail some post cards.
Across the canal from City Hall we bought tickets for the 11:30 Stromma Historic Canal Cruise. We took pictures of City Hall across the water as we waited. This cruise took us around the island of Kungsholmen with taped narration over the speakers in two languages, English and Swedish.
Stockholm is made up of 14 islands and has 50 bridges. In 1672 the island was renamed to Kingsholmen, Kings Island, to go along with the Queen and Prince Islands they already had.
We went past a lot of small marinas with lots of private boats in the 16' to 28' range. Lots of greenery and walking trails.
Concrete-base house boats with basements!
ABBA recorded their music up there in the top floors.
Here is a housing unit built in the 1930's for families with more than 2 children. Stockholm was trying to encourage larger families because the city's population was shrinking.
On the island Langholmen was a prison. They closed it 1975 and now they use it as a hostel, museum, and a folk high school.
After our cruise we went to lunch at Zocalo, a great Mexican fast food place very similar to Baja Fresh or Chipotle. We shared a BBQ chicken bowl. It was delicious.
10 minutes away was the Hallwyl House. This was the house of a Countess. She was very well to do from her father's money. She collected a lot of china from China, Ming Dynasty stuff and such. Her collection was in a room (was a servants bed room before she converted it) with built in cabinets, full length on both sides of the room and behind glass.
We loved the carved wood in this home. The double doors to each room and the frames around the doors and above the doors were beautifully carved.
After touring all the rooms here on our own with an audio guide, we took the 69 bus out to the Kaknastornet Tower out by the Maritime Museum. (We were scheduled to do this the other day when we did the Maritime Museum, but it was pouring) We got tickets and went up to the 30th floor of the 508' tower.
You could see all of Stockholm and we took pictures of all the places we had been and where we are going later this week.

We took the bus back into downtown and choose Subway for dinner, before walking the mile back to our apartment.
