06-02 Grona Lund Amusement Park

Out the door at 11:00 to catch the # 67 bus again. A lot of the attractions we are visiting here in Stockholm are all in the same location, but we could not get a place for a reasonable price near Gamla Stan, the main island of Stockholm, that is the oldest part of the city.

Today we are doing their amusement park, Grona Lund. It opens at noon so we got to sleep in. At the gate you pay for admission, then you go to another window to get the wrist bands that allow you unlimited rides.

The first ride we come to is a coaster. I know, you're shocked. Vilda Musen, a wild, Wild Mouse, is a fun ride. We get a front seat. It's fast with side to side sliding for Karen.

Kvasten, the Broom, is a suspended coaster with a separate line for the front seat. There aren't over-the-head restraints on your shoulders, but to the lap, so your upper body is free and can't bang into anything, making this ride more comfortable. Of course, we wait for the front.

Bla Taget is a dark ride, a classic scary dark ride with new twists. It was excellent. There were light up things in the floor under the track and the usual train with headlights coming on and blasting horn. But this ride also had a coaster car loaded with two skeletons come at you. What a great surprise.

Twister, their wooden coaster, broke down when we were next to get on.  We left the line after 10 minutes of waiting.

Jetliner had a very George Jetson's retro station and logo (50's dinner). It was a metal coaster and we rode in the front seat. It was fast and smooth with no air time. It's right across from Twister and Twister was up and running again so we hopped in line.

Bummer, up till now not much lines, but this is double the first time we waited.

Lustiga Huset (Funny House) is the Fun House. Karen didn't make it up the undulating stairs before the stairs turned off. After a certain amount of time they just stop. Big steps and her rhythm got off, so she wasn't fast enough. This house had air vents, shaky floors, spinning floors, a walk-through light up barrel, a walk-through rotating barrel, mirror hall, suspended bridge, and giant slide that they set the carpet on the slide and then they tip you forward.

Icarus was a high drop tower that drops you after tilting you forward face down. Very fun and VERY scary. It's the tall tower in the middle.

We went out by the water. Grona Lund borders the harbor and we got pictures of the cruise ships in town. There were three Viking Cruise Line Ships and one Disney Ship.

There is also a concert here today with Veronica Maggio, a well known Swedish performer. Elton John will be here July 2. They came in as soon as the park opened and staked out their spot for the concert. The crowd is growing for the concert and it is getting harder and harder to get though the area around the stage.

When you enter the park you are in the Kiddie area. We quickly bypassed it when we first arrived. Now we were leaving, so we took our time and looked at all the rides in here. Their kids area has two small coasters, a flying elephant ride, and a spinning tea cups ride.

Their kiddie drop tower is cute because it slowly turns around the tower as it drops. We had dinner (pizza) just outside the front gate, then walked down to the waterfront. After enjoying the view and the sunshine for a few minutes, we boarded the ferry (on our seven day metro card) and took the ferry over to Gamla Stan.
