06-11 Liseberg Amusement Park

Down for breakfast as soon as it opens at 7:30 because we have an 8:44 train to catch to Gothenburg. It's less than a five minute walk to the station, including checking out of the hotel. This hotel was very convenient to the train/bus station and a very comfortable room. It's nice out this morning. Cloudy, but a long sleeve, no coat day to start the day.

We dropped our luggage at our hotel in Gothenburg at 10:40. We head over to Liseberg Amusement Park and as we step out of the hotel it's already raining. Not a good start. It's just a short walk (15 min) to Liseberg.

We start with their big steel roller coaster Helix. It's manufactured by Mack Rides and it has over-the-head to the waist restraints, which makes coasters so much more comfortable. We get 2 front seat rides. This ride is awesome. It's fast, lots of air time, and very smooth, a lot of fun to ride. There are two launches. yes two. That tells you how long it is. And you make your first drop right out of the station.

It's raining harder now and at 11:30 we stop for lunch in a dry place called MAX. MAX is like Sweden's McDonald's. This is our first time to try them. They were very good and they sell Coke; important fact because this is a Pepsi park.

We head back down the hill on the escalator. Think Seatac airport south terminal - the very long escalator. Now add a second one. This is a really big hill. Down at the lower section we found Lisebergbanan, a fast, long train coaster. It was also a very good ride.

The rain picked up again, so we went through a couple of shops back to the Haunted  House. It's an extra charge and people are in there to just scare you, so we skip it.

Balder was closed when we first arrived, so Pat rode the Loki next door.

Then we did Balder after it opened. It's smooth, very fast, with LOTS of air time on every single hill. First we rode the front and then the back.

Next we rode Aerospin. It's kind of a new version of the old catch-the-air airplane ride, only this one first takes your really high in the air. Then you move your wings separately right and left. If you really get going you can spin your self upside down. The girl in front of me did several times.

Walked through their new-for-last-year Gardens. Sagoslottet (Fairy Tale Castle) was a flying Peter Pan vehicle ride. You don’t “fly” like in Peter Pan but you move past scenes like in most dark rides, past fairy tale scenes. Kind of cheaply done behind glass, just black walls in between scenes.

They have a Huge three story arcade. Pat rode Jukebox - an Octopus type ride with cars.

Then we did the house of mirrors walk through. Lots of funny shape mirrors and a glass maze with no real exit.

Kaninlandsbanan was an elevated car ride with fake pedals over and around kiddie land. Their mascots here are green bunnies and they sell green bunny ears.

Next we wanted an indoor ride. They don't have very many indoor rides or shows here, so the Ferris wheels cars are enclosed so we go there. We have to go to the top of the hill to get there. Well it was a great idea, but the pictures didn't turn out very well, because of all the rain drops on the windows.

We went back down the hill to the kiddie area and had dinner. I had BBQ chicken with potatoes and Pat had meatballs and mashed potatoes. Both meats were very dry.

Our last ride was the Rabbit River ride. It was a cute little river raft ride, that when you hit the sides you spun around and it had scenes of the green bunnies. It all comes together in the end. This is where the green bunny mascots come from.

After this we left. I'm sure we would have rode a few of their great coasters more times and stayed later if we weren’t so tired of all the rain. If it had only quit raining for a while, but it just alternated from heavy to light rain all day. We walked back to the hotel and checked in. Our evening was spent writing this up and contemplating what to do tomorrow in the rain.
