This boat was originally used to haul sand, gravel and coal before the current owner bought it and turned it into a houseboat. It's 15.5 feet wide, so it's very spacious inside.
There was two cupboard beds at the stern and a desk (office area) as soon as you step on. Then in the next room was the kitchen with enough counter space and a small 4 burner stove, double sink and plenty of room to add a table.
The next room was the living room with built in bookcases and plenty of area to have friends over. Next a larger double bed and a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. Then into the bow they had set up an area with low head room where you could sit and watch a video showing houseboats. There was also one more cupboard bed in the bow area you could see through the glassed off bow. We had a nice chat with the girl selling tickets.
We continued our walk along the Prinsengracht Canal; taking pictures, wondering through a couple of little shops and then stopping for lunch at Spanjer en van Twist. We sit outside along the Leliegracht canal and split a cheddar bacon burger. We finished lunch at 1:15 and continue our walk down the Prinsengtacht Canal.
We were sitting on the last table on the end right.
Nice leisurely day enjoying the sunshine. It’s still cool and in the low 50s. We swing by the Singel Canal Floating Flower Market and I get a beautiful bouquet for $13.50e. We stop for a slice of pizza for dinner and some groceries; water, paper towels, and ice cream. Then on to home.
Our place is so convenient to seeing everything here in Amsterdam. The view of the canal has been so enjoyable and entertaining. We are just two blocks two different ways to the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, but it's so peaceful here. There is almost always someone walking or biking over our canal bridge or a boat going under it. Lots of different boats. Most canal tour boats have headsets for hearing about history and sites, so there's no noise from them. A lot of the boats are electric so they are very quiet.
Our room has a small black leather couch, a refrigerator, sink, a 4 burner cook top, a microwave, a small desk and bookshelf, a wardrobe full of lots of hangers, a king sized bed and a table with two chairs, and a small 18" TV with DVD player.
The bathroom has a tub with a shower and a combo washer/dryer, a towel warmer, 4 towels, a bath mat, two hand towels and a hair dryer. The toilet paper was not soft, so I bought my own. It's not much softer, but an improvement. I also bought liquid hand soap; didn't like the smell of theirs. And I bought Kleenex because there was none here. We also bought paper towels. They provided dish soap and laundry soap. The bathroom has a full length glass door - strange.
The outside shutters on the windows that I thought would block out the light for me, won't close. Painted too many time and never closed; bummer. The drapes are old and don't block out the light on top and bottom. Temp in the room is very controllable. If it's too hot just open the window for a few minutes. There is plenty of room here for the two of us and the table by the window is where we spend all our time. ❤
