After our leisurely morning we head off to the 10:00 talk on the shore excursions. We learn a flew good tips. There is supposed to be a sale outside the Shops, so Karen makes a quick walk through. They don't have much, but at least now they have stuff from Norway. Nothing new today, no great sale.
Karen went to the Digital Class "Get Creative with Photo Gallery". Brian was going to do the Texas Hold-'Em card tournament, but not enough people showed up, so he came and joined her in the class. We learn about blending two or more photos to get every person smiling in the same photo. There is also a way of taking several pictures and turning them into a panoramic picture. Making several pictures into a collage automatically is also possible. All this is through a Microsoft free downloadable app.
Karen went to the Taco Bar out by the pool with Brian for lunch. They were joined by Pat when they were almost finished. She enjoys the tacos here, skipping the soft and hard taco shells and just using the chips. After we enjoy desert, ice cream, Pat and Brian play ping pong and Karen sits nearby in the sun writing.
At 1:30 we did Trivia in the Crows Nest with Sabina. We get 9 (of 15) correct this time, then it's off to the Port Talk with Claudia in the Showroom at Sea (their big theater room). All three of us listened to the port talk and then Brian split from us and went to work out. Walking past the new sales table we found two t-shirts that we both liked. Karen got one that says "Norwegian Fjords" and Pat got one the says "Cruising Through Life One Cruise at a Time". Two shirts for $20.
We both attend the Captain's talk and learn that Holland American Cruise Lines is owned by Carnival. We can't believe it. There are 600 crew members working on this ship.
Karen leaves part way through and goes to "How to use your Digital Camera". The teacher shows us how to review your pictures in your camera. You can zoom into your photo using the zoom/telephoto thing but you can also zoom out and get to thumbnails of your pictures. Portrait mode - puts people in focus not the background. Landscape mode - every focal length is in focus. Micro-close up, sports-action or movement will take several pictures in a row by holding down the picture taking button. Flash - use for back light pictures. Video -remember to push stop or your video will not save.
Karen heads upstairs (it is up on Deck 8, same deck as the pool, the buffet, and the taco bar) to play ping pong with Brian. After a few minutes Pat joins us and takes over Karen's paddle. It's a very nice sunny day on the other side of the ship. We can't leave our door open though because we are currently on the shady side and it's too cold. The pool roof has not been open today, but it's sunny and nice and people are actually using the pool all day today. It's short sleeve shirt and shorts weather and warm up here. Brian has been in shorts all day.
Time for dinner. It's Gala Night, so quite a few people around are dressed up and two photo locations are set up, but they only have color backgrounds, not the ship or other photo backdrop like we've seen on just about every other cruise ship we've sailed on. Bummer.
The lobster mac 'n cheese was very good this evening for dinner. After dinner, Brian and Karen played Trivial Pursuit in the game room until our normal 7:30pm Trivia time. Garth and Julia join the 3 of us and we scored 8 correct answers.
Pat and I went down to the evening's main show. It was called the Midnight Hour. The singers and dancers are good, but they do not use any props or background sets.
Next it's over to the Ocean Bar lounge for Music Trivia with Coen (pronounced like the second syllable in "raccoon". It was themed to musicals. We scored a 10 out of 15 with just the three of us.
So, these "Days Off" at sea are still quite busy, but they are leisurely to us.
