05-13 Cruising on Holland America Rotterdam

We started today with a walk with Brian over to our Netherland’s favorite grocery store, Albert Heijn, to get breakfast. We all found juice, water, croissants and breakfast bars.

We continued around the harbor getting pictures of Rotterdam and our ship. Back to the hotel we went to finish packing and checkout of the New York Hotel. It was only a 5 minute walk from there over to the Rotterdam cruise ship.

Check-in goes really fast. In 24 minutes we go from checking out of the hotel to being in our room on the cruise ship. Unbelievable!!!

Lunch in the Lido Restaurant and afterwards we explore the ship, finding the basketball court, a tennis/soccer area and ping pong. Our bags arrived so we unpacked.

While we were unpacking, down on the dock just below our room (we are on deck three) a Dutch singing group starts singing. We go out and watch, then, with our door open, we listen to the music as we unpack and get organized.

Time for the life jacket drill and time to sail away. We have rooms next to each other on the lower promenade deck and can walk right outside to the railing. The Dutch singing group and band sing and play as we leave. They put coats on when it started raining, but didn't quit singing.

It’s raining at sail away. The passage to get out to open sea is really long. A lot of industrial area, then we pass the town of Massluis.  In both Rotterdam and in this small town, people and are out waving as we pass. We learned that our dinner time never got changed from late, 8pm to early, 5:45pm, so we went to the Lido Restaurant again for dinner.

After dinner we check out the workout room for Brian. There's no show tonight, only a movie, so Brian went to work out and we wandered through the shops, then sat down by a window in the Ocean Bar. Pat reads and Karen writes the blog. The band comes in and starts to play. There's a dance floor here and one couple dances. After enjoying a couple songs, we went back to our room and watched the last hour of Leap Year while finishing our unpacking.
